At the helm of the Emporium is artist Lee May Foster who started The Bonbi Forest Indie Emporium after discovering a love for the indie art and design world when she embarked on her own journey of making and creating. About Lee May Foster and her Bonbi Forest brand…
Lee May started her own Bonbi Forest brand about a year before she opened The Emporium. She is trained in Fine Art and makes hand-printed tees and accessories which feature print designs taken from her drawings and paintings. Influenced by everything from the great outdoors of her Cornish homeland and travels around the world to good music and books, the designs brim with a magical spectrum of people, creatures and places. Think Eskimo Kisses, wild deer, talking magpies, home sweet home and big angel wings!
Her jewellery too takes a starting point in nature, often combining symbols of things celestial and space-like, with themes of the natural world such as leaves, animals, flowers and feathers. She likes to use gentle tones with the odd splash of bright colour, which lends a touch of the mystical to the everyday…
As well as her artwork, jewellery, tees and accessories and running the Emporium, Lee May has also undertaken a variety of commissions and recent projects include designing and hand printing the official merchandise for Mercury Prize and Brit Award nominated band Bat For Lashes, creating a triptych of wall art for international lifestyle store Urban Outfitters, and producing visuals for London/ Brighton based club night It Came From The Sea. Her current commission is designing and making a limited edition range of t-shirts for music makers Dan le Sac V’s Scroobius Pip who have recently toured with Mark Ronson…
